A little about SteelGem Games. It is a Solo Development Studio meaning everything I am doing is on My own in my spare time.
The Name SteelGem is an amalgomation of my nickname and my girlfriends name. Stee and Meg with an l in there and a bit of reversal.
For the time being I (Stee) am going alone. So a bit about me...
I am a developer for a fairly large Online Retail website in the UK. I work just shy of 40 hours a week on average at my day job mainly working in Java and in my spare time up until recently i just played Games.
While i enjoy my Job and am thankful i have one during a Pandemic. There was always an itch(.io) in the back of my mind. This itch was not HeadLice like i first assumed but it was an itch to create the things i loved to play.
Brief History of 'Experience'
Having a degree in games design from back in 2013 I did all of nothing with the skills I picked up for around 5 years until i had forgot them all. Then i gave Unity and Unreal Engine 4 a go. Safe to say i was in over my head, Having always Favoured Source Engine and Hammer to Unreal back at University and Unity was not the giant it is now. So i did what any lazy 20 something did made a 1/3 of a game and Gave up.
In 2019 i picked up Game Design with Unity again as something other than Gaming to do in the house but was very casual about it spending 3-5 hours a week on it and occasionally having a few weeks off it.
In 2020 the Global Pandemic hit and staying in was now the norm. So i doubled down on my Unity Development to pass the time. People were being Temporarily Layed off globally, My Girlfriend was one of those people. She was in need of a purpose so we decided to try doing a Game Jam. I did most of the development and she did the art and UI. and together we didnt come last!
She soon was back in employment thankfully but she lost interest in making games fast, However i had that itch again and ive been playing around in Unity daily for over a year spending upwards of 2 hours an evening and 7+ at the weekend.
